Read with a Child is an innovative literacy program currently being offered at La Rabida Children's Hospital.

Unlike other literacy programs, Read with a Child targets children who are at particularly high risk for reading failure due to chronic illness or disability.

The program has two essential components: giving new books to children in the outpatient department and reading with children in the hospital waiting room and throughout inpatient stay. Parents receive coaching and resources guiding the importance of reading with their child.

In 2007, LaRabida and the Reilly Foundation provided 5000 children with books and reading time, and 5000 families with new avenues to education.
